Rosemary Gates Gears Up For the Release of SHINE

September 2, 2000

Rosemary Gates is proud to announce the release of its independent debut release Shine. Release is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2000, at Columbia Street West. The album will be available for purchase that night at Columbia Street. Following the release party, the CD can be purchased at all area Wooden Nickel, On Cue, Sam Goody's, and Borders Bookstore locations as well as at all subsequent live performances.

"The album has been a year in the making but has been well worth it," according to the band. Rosemary Gates has seen a very exciting and very turbulent past 18 months. In addition to finding time to get into the studio to record, the band was also carrying a heavy schedule which included opening three times for national acts and, in one stretch in May of this year, playing a grueling six shows in a nine day period. "That is something we don't necessarily like to do to ourselves, but when opportunity knocks, you answer," says Mike Archbold, guitarist for the band.

This type of schedule, although very difficult to maintain at times, has been very beneficial to the band as it has put the name Rosemary Gates out in the regional market quite a bit for all to see.

In addition to behemoth scheduling, the band also had to deal with the loss of one of its founding members, bass player, Scott Jackson. In March of this year, Scott made the difficult decision to move on from the band and pursue the world of academia full time. This put quite a damper on the band both in terms of playing out and studio work.

Fortunately for the band, they were introduced to Bryan "B-Funk" Bankson through a friend in the local music scene. "There was almost no learning curve for B-Funk. He is that good," boasted Archbold. B-Funk is a music scene veteran having had stints with nationally renowned cover band Radio Daze and Fort Wayne's own Gypsy Circus. B-Funk came in and filled some very big shoes and hit the studio like a pro.

The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Wil Putt's Soundmill Studios in Fort Wayne. Neal Parnin engineered the project. "Wil has the best recording equipment in town and Neal is a master at Pro Tools. No way we were going anywhere else," says Archbold. Soundmill boasts the area's only Pro Tools recording station. Pro Tools is an all digital format that is taking the industry by storm and eliminating that need for the old tape processes.

With the release of Shine, the band will be showcasing 12 songs, some heard by fans and others yet to be heard. The album will also include a cover of Lenny Kravitz's "Rosemary," which is the namesake for the band.

The finished product will be made available to local press and radio stations somewhere in mid September.
